Prioritize Craftsmanship
When it comes to sourcing, the cheapest option is rarely the best one. What sets great brands apart isn’t shaving pennies off the cost—it’s choosing suppliers who value craftsmanship. A product that feels well made earns trust, and trust is what keeps customers coming back.
Take Moroccan teapots. The ones made by skilled Moroccan craftsmen—using real metalwork, traditional designs, and durable materials—last for years and carry a beauty that tells a story. Compare that to the machine-made knockoffs churned out in bulk in China: thin metal that dents or breaks, toxic materials that leach into your tea, and designs that look “almost right” but lack the soul of the original. One feels authentic, the other disposable.
The same applies to consumables. True oud wood is carefully sourced and naturally aromatic, its scent deep and complex. Cheap substitutes, on the other hand, are just scraps of wood sprayed with synthetic oud oil—flat, one-dimensional, and gone in minutes.
Craftsmanship is about more than aesthetics—it’s about safety, sustainability, and fairness. Suppliers who value craft tend to respect their materials, their workers, and the environment. Choosing them may cost a little more, but it makes your brand part of a bigger story: one of care and authenticity instead of shortcuts.
Ask your shortlisted suppliers: How are your products actually made? Who makes them? What materials are used? Do they cut corners with cheaper substitutes? Write down the answers, and cut any supplier who can’t prove they value craft and fairness.
